Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2011: Sean Durkin’s Martha Marcy May Marlene

It was almost one year to the day when Sean Durkin's Mary Last Seen was the short film that floored me among those that I saw in Park City (it would go onto win in the Director's Fortnight section in Cannes) and hence why I'm looking forward in seeing how the filmmaker might have expanded on the idea. For a first film Durkin works from several Sundance vets and this also includes Mary Last Seen's creepy protag in Brady Corbet (curious to see if he works from a similar role) and an actress which everyone in indie film sphere is calling the next big thing.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2011: Julia Leigh’s Sleeping Beauty

In a year where it's Hardwicke's fairy tale adaptation of Red Riding Hood that might be receiving the most attention, I'd place my money on Julia Leigh's vision of Sleeping Beauty being the edgier, and the more noteworthy fair. The Filmmaker Magazine Top 25 New Face director from Australia worked from a 2008 Black List favorite - which I haven't read but I've heard is quite good on paper.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2011: Paddy Considine’s Tyrannosaur

I'm really looking forward to this film namely because of the actor who is directing it, the director of photography who lensed it and the actor who has center stage. In my books, Paddy Considine is an under-appreciated actor and I think his best work when in front of the camera are the shady, darker areas of the human condition and I think his curriculum as a filmmaker will certainly swerve towards these portraits. Dp Erik Wilson did some great lensing with Submarine and I imagine is where he might with Considine and then you have Peter Mullan - I can't say enough about him since I took first notice in Danny Boyle's first two films.
