The design is a definite throwback to Saul Bass' iconic poster for Hitchcock's Vertigo right down to the lettering. It's understated poetry in non-motion. The choice of stylistic inspiration is made all the more interesting given Burn's decidedly comedic overtones – Vertigo was anything but – and how Bass' style can be translated to disparate genres with equal affect.
‘Second Wave’ Hong Kong filmmaker Clara Law (Floating Life) is finally returning to the director’s chair after a four year sabbatical with her first Chinese film since 1994’s King of Western Chu (her last film before bolting to Australia prior to Hong Kong’s handover to China in 1997). Continuing their run of big time acquisitions, boutique distributor Summit Entertainment has scooped up worldwide rights for Imagi Entertainment’s CG animated Astro Boy. Curiously, the pic was previously set to be distributed domestically and worldwide by Warner Bros. and The Weinstein Company respectively.
Last September Tobey Maguire announced that he was developing a live-action film based on the 80’s anime classic Robotech through his Maguire Pictures and Warner Bros. Since then there’s been no details to speak of other than some unknown writer named Craig Zahler was working on the script. Well apparently he wasn’t delivering the goods because Lawrence Kasdan has been hired to take over writing duties on the film.
