Sutherland & Aja Make Horror Funny in ‘Mirrors’ Trailer

Kiefer Sutherland stars as a downtrodden mall security guard that discovers the mirrors sold at a particular department store have some nightmarishly supernatural properties. The trailer falls strictly in the how not to cut a trailer camp as it’s a disjointed mess.

A few weeks back I finally had the opportunity to catch the
Spanish horror flick [Rec] and was totally blown away. My buddies and I quickly
got into a debate on the state of horror cinema over the last few years. I
contended that truly horrifying movies have been superseded for jump scares and
gritty violence (or torture porn). Case in point: Alexandre Aja, who made a
splash in the horror community with Haute Tension — a film that despite its
glossy look, is almost offensively bad and completely overrated. He followed
that up with the remake for Wes Craven’s classic The Hills Have Eyes, another
stylistic blood bath without bite. The man has certainly found a niche, so when
I saw the trailer for Fox’s Mirrors yesterday I couldn’t even tell it was from
the same filmmaker.

Kiefer Sutherland stars as a downtrodden mall security guard

supernatural properties. The trailer falls strictly in the how not to cut a
trailer camp as it’s a disjointed mess. Not to mention hilarious – how can you
not laugh when Sutherland shares his insights about said mirrors? It’s comedy
gold! How anyone would be inspired to see this based on the trailer is beyond
me. Not surprisingly the picture is a loose remake of the tepid 2003 Korean
scarer Into the Mirrors starring Oldboy’s Ji-tae Yu – proving Hollywood
will by any Asian horror concept no matter how weak.

Mirrors will be in and out of theatres everywhere on August
15. Aja already has his follow-up locked and loaded with his take on the 1978
guilty pleasure Piranha… this time in 3-D! I guess the rights for Leviathan were
unavailable. You couldn’t even make this stuff up folks.

Prepare to have your funny bone tickled…
