With barely a year between productions, Brazilian filmmaker Gabriela Amaral Almeida moves from survivalism in O Animal Cordial to enlarger genre parameters to delve into grief and loss in her sophmore feature. Produced by Rodrigo Teixeira, The Father’s Shadow was selected was a double winner at the 2019 edition of the Fantasia Intl. Film Festival. Rian Kraether Goettert covered the film for us and in his skype interview with the filmmaker they touched upon writing and directing in the horror genre, the process of bringing The Father’s Shadow from the Sundance Labs into production and the current political climate in Brazil and how its implications.
