2012 Cannes Film Festival Predictions: Nick Cassavetes’ Yellow

Date:

Gist: An addiction dramedy noir ensemble featuring Lucy Punch, Sienna Miller, Ray Liotta, Max Thieriot, David Morse, Daveigh Chase, Brendan Sexton III, Melanie Griffith, Elizabeth Daily, Riley Keough and Cassavetes’ mom, Gena Rowlands. Featuring Cassevetes’ wife in the lead role, Mary (Heather Wahlquist) has problems. She has a difficult time feeling things, and swallowing twenty Vicodin a day doesn’t help. She’s seeing a psychiatrist for the disconnect daydreams she keeps having, and her younger sister with Tourette’s hates her. When she loses her job after sleeping with one of the fathers on Parent’s Night, Mary decides to go home. And that’s when the fun really starts.

Prediction: While Nick Cassavetes went for soft, opted for Hollywood material, Yellow – a two year passion project would bring him back into the arty fold.  We think there is an outside chance for the Un Certain Regard section – which is where his 1997 drama, She’s So Lovely premiered. It certainly would be a special Cannes fest if both Cassavetes predictions do pan out.
