In a post Sundance, pre-spring pickup, FilmRise’s Danny Fisher has landed a hot summer title that didn’t go unnoticed when it was launched back in Park City in the U.S Dramatic Comp. Currently being shown in different American film fests, the distrib have announced that they’ll peddle the drug and sex-fueled White Girl in late Summer/early Fall 2016.
Gist: Summer, New York City. A college girl (Morgan Saylor) falls hard for a guy she just met. After a night of partying goes wrong, she goes to wild extremes to get him back.
Worth Noting: Cinematographer Michael Simmonds (who has shot almost all of Ramin Bahrani’s films) excels here.
Do We Care?: Slotted in our number 2 spot in our 2016 Top 10 New Faces Sundance wrap up, Saylor offers a “fierce, non-exploitative role that is full of risk,” while this is a brave performance and visceral debut from Wood, this comes unhinged, imperfect and in portions remains a tough watch for a multitude of reasons.
