Sibyl

Following the runaway success of her 2016 sophomore film Victoria, director Justine Triet returns with the highly anticipated dramedy Sibyl, filmed in secret over the summer of 2018 and featuring a high profile cast consisting of her Victoria star Virginie Efira, Adele Exarchopoulos, Gaspard Ulliel, Niels Schneider, Laura Calamy, Paul Hamy, and Sandra Huller. Produced by David Thion and Phillip Martin for Les Films Pelleas, the title is also co-produced by France 2 Cinema, Les Films de Pierre, Page 114, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes Cinema and Belgium’s Scope Pictures. Triet also reunites with her Victoria DP Simon Beufils (Knife+Heart, 2018). Triet rose to prominence with her 2013 debut Age of Panic, nominated for a Cesar for Best First Film and premiered out of the ACID lineup. 2016’s Victoria opened the Cannes Critics’ Week and was later nominated for five Cesars, including Best Film, Screenplay, and Actress.

Gist: Triet’s screenplay, which was written with assistance of Arthur Harari, concerns Sybil, a novelist turned psychotherapist who wishes to get back to her former occupation. Deciding to let most of her patients go as she pursues other interests, she’s suddenly contacted by a young woman begging to see her. When Sybil agrees, the woman’s revelations turn her life upside down.

Release Date/Prediction: Filmed in secret over the summer of 2018, we expect Triet to return to Cannes in 2019, potentially in Un Certain Regard or Directors’ Fortnight.
