Top 200 Most Anticipated Films for 2014: #129. Ted Melfi’s St. Vincent De Van Nuys

Date:

Director: Ted Melfi
Writer: Ted Melfi
Producers: Chernin Entertainment’s Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping, Ted Melfi, Fred Roos, Don Cheadle
U.S. Distributor: The Weinstein Co.
Cast: Bill Murray, Melissa McCarthy, Naomi Watts, Chris O’Dowd, Terrence Howard, Nate Corddry

I don’t think that I’m taking a huge leap of faith here in thinking that the fairytale story about how St. Vincent De Van Nuys got made (at one point had Jack Nicholson somewhat interested in playing the part that eventually went to Bill Murray) might be just as appetizing as the final product itself. The Weinstein Co. felt so confident about commercials director Ted Melfi’s spec that they financed the entire project.

Gist: Murray will play a cantankerous train wreck of a neighbor who takes under his corrupt wing the 12-year old son of a struggling single mother who has moved in next door.

Release Date: Production began in June and is currently set for an April 11th release with what appears to be no festival hype.
