Date:

A Pigeon Sat On a Branch Reflecting Existence

Director: Roy Andersson
Writer: Roy Andersson
Producer: Pernilla Sandström
U.S. Distributor: Rights Available
Cast: Nisse Vestblom, Holger Andersson

Add another “s” to Anderson, and unlike his American cousin Wes, Roy ups the ante on comedic absurdities. Working in his painterly fashion means that his output level is timed in seven years spurts…which means after 2000′s Songs from the Second Floor and 2007′s You, the Living, we might be repping our rewards. Gist: This focuses on two central characters: one is a traveling salesman and the other is slightly mentally retarded. It is the vendor who tells his friend about why society is what it is…

Release Date: Having taken his sweet time in post-production, the filmmaker dated this as a 2014 release (we thought he might have speeded up the process and ranked this last year. He’ll probably find an Un Certain Regard slot for what will likely be his last film.
