Altercation Alteration: Winger & Letts Quarrel on Azazel Jacobs’ “The Lovers”

Date:

A welcome return to feature film, after a stint with “Doll & Em,” and The Grace That Keeps This World adaptation still in development, Deadline reports that Debra Winger and Tracy Letts (who knocked it out of the park in Antonio Campos’ Christine) are being eyed as the sparring pair for The Lovers. Receiving the full support (financing, producing and distributing) from the A24 folks, Azazel Jacobs‘ new comedy is set to begin production next month. Ben LeClair (Upstream Color) and Chris Stinson (Terri) are producing.

Gist: This is about a relationship gone bitterly bad between Michael (Letts) and Mary (Winger); both have lovers who want them to get out of their marriage. However, when Michael and Mary sit down to call it quits, they find themselves suddenly, unexpectedly and even awkwardly falling back in love again.

Worth Noting: Jacobs most recently worked with Winger on Dinmachine’s vid for The Opposites of Unity (see below).

Do We Care?: The modern marriage subgenre is a dime a dozen, but we like the age demo of the main characters here. Known for creating plausibly, memorable interpersonal rapports, Momma’s Man helmer will likely craft a zinger.
