Directly on heals of the U.N.’s more news is not good news announcement, producer Lawrence Bender told THR that a sequel to An Inconvenient Truth might be in the works. The fabulous powerpoint presentation from the non-vegan Al Gore (a full seven years after the doc, the former vice-president has finally converted to Bill Clinton’s ecologically sound diet), was a bankable hit but felt incredibly dated before it’s theatrical release.
Gist: The 2006 film brought together the science of global warming with Mr. Gore’s personal history and lifelong commitment to reversing the effects of global climate change. Fast-forward almost a decade later, the sequel would look at the taxing energy sources and campaigns but into place to spread misinformation.
Worth Noting: Al Gore is not the only “film” person in the family. His daughter is a solid scribe who worked on Spike Jonze’s Her and Mark Jackson’s War Story. Here is our Sundance trading card profile on her.
Do We Care?: Ultimately the first installment lacked bite with it’s all-encompassing, more “hopeful” view. The sequel would need to change tones. Bring on the talking heads that talk the talk and walk the walk. This will need to address the highly unpopular discourse: world’s meat-eating consumption and take aim at the industry players with the worst track records. Lawyer up and get it done.
