2013 Cannes Film Festival Predictions: Alexander Payne’s Nebraska

Date:

#28. Alexander Payne’s Nebraska

Gist: Payne’s deft touch with comedy is always a pleasure to behold. A elderly boozing father and his estranged son make a road trip from Montana to Nebraska to claim a million-dollar sweepstakes prize. This is the first time Payne is directing a script he has not written. With Bruce Dern and Will Forte.

Prediction: Despite only having brought About Schmidt (2002) and Paris Je T’aime (2006 – Un Certain Regard) to Cannes, this would be Payne’s second year in a row following his stint as a jury member (worth mentioning he was also the President for the Un Certain Regard section in ’05). A late shooting date last year should not prevent this from being on the Croisette – we can see a little deadpan humor in the Main Comp.
