2013 Cannes Film Festival Predictions: Marco Van Geffen’s In Your Name

Date:

#92. Marco Van Geffen’s In Your Name

Gist: Following his 2011 film Among Us, the second part of Van Geffen’s Vinex Trilogy, (revolving, facetiously, around the notion of the happy family), the second installment will focus on a Dutch couple attempting to build a new life together. However, their progress is derailed when their newborn child dies from a rare disease, leading the otherwise “normal” couple down a road of despair that apparently leads to dire circumstances. Barry Atsma and Lotte Verbeek (see above) star.

Prediction: In Your Name won the coveted Arte prize for Best Project at the Cannes Atelier co-production meeting, and with the first film winning prizes after a 2011 premier in Locarno, we’re betting that Van Geffen’s latest will make a bow in Un Certain Regard. Shooting began in December, and the pic is set to show in native Netherlands in the fall — so this is working under tight conditions for a Croisette showing.
