2018 Cannes Critics’ Panel: Day 1 – Asghar Farhadi’s Everybody Knows

Date:

Best known for winning a pair of Best Foreign Language Film for his films A Separation (2012) and The Salesman (2017) the festival opener slot and competition film (which lands domestically in France the day after) belongs to Asghar Farhadi‘s Everybody Knows. His third time on the Croisette after The Past (2013) and The Saleman (2016 – Best Screenplay winner), the Iranian continues to work outside his country of origin in his first Spanish language film.

If it were set in a train, it would be called an homage to Agatha Christie. Such as in his previous catch-22 films, couplehood and an ensemble of pitting forces makes for an underwhelming kidnapping drama/thriller and …. a subpar Farhadi film.
