Fatherland and Fjord towered above the rest on our 2026 Cannes Critics’ Panel — but how did the competition stack up across the other jury grids floating around the Croisette? In a year where our highest-rated selections also found favor with the Palme d’Or jury, Pawlikowski and Mungiu emerged neck-and-neck atop our chart with towering 3.7 averages, closely pursued by Minotaur at 3.6. Just behind them came a tightly packed trio — Coward, All of a Sudden and Notre Salut (aka A Man of His Time) — each landing strong 3.4 averages. But beyond our own panel, where did the broader critical consensus land?
The ICS (International Critics Society) top three ranking have James Gray’s Paper Tiger, Fatherland and Notre Salut in a 3-way tie for first (3.6). Valeska Grisebach’s The Dreamed Adventure (the Cannes Jury Prize winner) tops the moir.ee chart with All of a Sudden, Fatherland, Paper Tiger and The Unknown tied for second. The German filmmaker was also tops on the Film Comment’s group — their first grid had Grisebach followed by Andrey Zvyagintsev and Ryusuke Hamaguchi.
Screen Daily might be closer to our grid results with Fatherland also topping their chart with Minotaur, The Dreamed Adventure and All of a Sudden close behind. The folks at Chaosreign.fr have a ranking of Notre Salut, Minotaur and Paper Tiger while the Cahiers du cinema people (view here) and le film francais confirm the #1 status for Notre Salut. We’ll be back next year with a potential major upgrade on our system – with quicker, live scores.
