A project that we were zeroing in on last week has finally been fully revealed. Louis Garrel, Vincent Cassel and Diane Kruger are indeed working on a project with auteur Argentinian filmmaker (Paris-based) Pablo Agüero on a set in the 1930’s drama titled Saint-Ex. Cineuropa reports that Cheyenne Fédération’s Julien Madon and Aimée Buidine are producing. This is also a co-production with A Single Man Productions and Belgium’s Frakas Productions and RTBF. So this is a two-plus month shoot which takes place in France, Corsica, Patagonia and New York. The big news here is that the cinematographer is none other than Claire Mathon.
Set in 1930, Saint-Ex centres around Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, an Airmail pilot in Argentina. When his best friend who happens to be Airmail’s best pilot Henri Guillaumet disappears in the Andes, Saint-Ex decides to set out in search of him, against all odds. This impossible quest forces him to push beyond his limits, turning his capacity to dream into his greatest strength…
Pablo Agüero has mostly been a mainstay at the San Sebastián Film Festival – and was at the Cannes Film Festival with 2008’s Salamandra – a Directors’ Fortnight selection.
Eric Lavallée is the founder, CEO, editor-in-chief, film journalist and critic at IONCINEMA.com (founded in 2000). Eric is a regular at Sundance, Cannes and TIFF. He has a BFA in Film Studies at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema. In 2013 he served as a Narrative Competition Jury Member at the SXSW Film Festival. He was an associate producer on Mark Jackson's This Teacher (2018 LA Film Festival, 2018 BFI London). In 2022 he served as a New Flesh Comp for Best First Feature at the 2022 Fantasia Intl.
