Inside the 2011 Cannes Film Festival: Tree of Life Wins Palme

Thierry Frémaux finally got his wish (to show The Tree of Life) and now, he can return the gift to Malick with the Palme d’Or. The jury headed by president Robert De Niro (with fellow juries Jude Law, Uma Thurman, Martina Gusmán, Nansun Shi, Linn Ullmann, Olivier Assayas, Mahamat-Saleh Haroun and Johnnie To) thought highly of films that were top rated among our Cannes Critics Panel. Here’s the list of winners in full:

Palme D’Or: The Tree of Life by Terrence Malick
Grand Prix: (Tie)
Once Upon A Time In Anatolia by Nuri Bilge Ceylan
The Kid With a Bike by Jean-Pierre & Luc Dardenne
Award for Best Director: Nicolas Winding Refn for Drive
Jury Prize: Poliss by Maiwenn
