2011 Cannes Critics’ Panel: Day 10 – Paolo Sorrentino’s This Must Be the Place

Sure there are traces of his stylistic prowess, but Paolo Sorrentino’s This Must Be the Place sure is a departure in terms of tone, form and narrative efficiency when compared to Il Divo. It’s like day and night. It’s somewhat early for our critics’ panel to break out the grades, but so far Sorrentino’s road-trip, search for self in America is the most decisive, love it or hate it title of the festival with a couple of critics grading this north of three (out of four stars) and the rest none too pleased by what is perhaps the most unique revenge film you’ll see all year.
