2011 Sundance Predictions: So Yong Kim’s For Ellen

I originally thought So Yong Kim’s For Ellen would be ready for the fall film fest season, but I believe she would put on the producer’s hat for hubby Bradley Rust Gray’s Jack and Diane which shot this summer. Kim broke out at 2006 edition of Sundance with In Between Days and will be surely be welcomed with open arms with her first independent film to feature name talent in Paul Dano, Jon Heder, Jena Malone, Margarita Levieva and Dakota Johnson.

#08. For Ellen – So Yong Kim

This tells the tale of Joby (Dano), an aspiring young rock star, finally agrees to sign divorce papers with his estranged wife (Malone), he discovers that he is about to forfeit all custody of his six-year-old daughter, Ellen. Never having been in Ellen’s life before, Joby suddenly realizes that he’s not ready to lose that part of himself. Hoping to make up for lost time, he tries to win her heart. Expect this to be included in the Dramatic Competition Section and find a subsequent festival release in Berlin.

* Producers: Jen Gatien, Bradley Rust Gray and Kim
