Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Biutiful was perhaps the most anticipated film from the main competition this year, and even more weight might have been placed on the title since it was expected almost a full year ago. Final verdict: there’ll be no Palme d’or this year, and what is being said in the hallways from the people I spoke to is: Javier Bardem might be gunning for a Best Actor award with this richly textured performance much like what we saw from him in countless other dramas.
