Clips: Sisterly Love in Pieds Berthaud’s Nus sur les Limaces

Ludivine Sagnier’s schtick as a fawn lost without it’s mother may be too much of a stretch of the imagination in this pairing of clips (click on the screen caps) below for Fabienne Berthaud’s Lily Sometimes. Presented as the closing night film for the Director’s Fortnight section, it’ll be odd to see Sagnier take on a role that is ditzy, or years below her actual age when you think of how Ozon presented her to us as a slightly older Lolita in Swimming Pool. This is Berthaud’s second feature film, she previously worked on a semi-doc semi-fictional account of the cruel modeling world of which Diane Kruger was a part of until she got the acting bug. Berthaud Lilly Sometimes

Berthaud Lilly Sometimes

Co-written by Berthaud and Pascal Arnold, this is based on Berthaud’s eponymous novel, and centres on Clara (Kruger), who is happily married to a promising lawyer and lives in Paris. After the sudden death of their mother, Clara has to assume responsibility for her younger sister, Lily (Sagnier), whose extreme sensitivity makes her vulnerable to the outside world and prevents her from being autonomous. Living in the family home in the countryside, Lily has created her own unique world, which she finds difficult to leave, as it gives her a certain stability. But she needs protection. Clara, whose life has taken shape away from her sister, has to make some choices and learns that normality is purely subjective.
