FilmDistrict Not ‘Afraid Of The Dark’

Date:

After finding another distribution to share in the risk of releasing Last Night and passing off The Debt to Focus, the “new” Miramax company is in risk sharing mode on another delayed title in Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark. The horror flick will receive an August 12th release via FilmDistrict and Miramax.

Gist: Scripted by Guillermo Del Toro and Matthew Robbins, this is based on a remake of the 1973 ABC TV movie. This centers on a young girl (Madison), sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend, who discovers sinister creatures that live underneath the stairs. She is fascinated by them — until they prove dangerous. Pearce will play the father, an author frustrated by his daughter’s tales of monsters, not believing her even when his girlfriend (Holmes) backs her.

Worth Noting: The press release reminds us that Del Toro and FilmDistrict head of theatrical distribution Berney previously partnered on Pan’s Labyrinth when Berney was head of Picturehouse.

Do We Care?: It feels as if all delayed Miramax titles are coming across as “damaged goods”, but this former “Most Anticipated” 2010 pick might be a great option during the generally unappealing month of August.
