IFC fall outta the sky for ‘Mister Lonely’

Date:

You’ve got to have a special funny bone and plenty of stamina to enjoy Harmony Korine’s comeback film. In some post-Cannes, pre-Toronto shopping, IFC First Take has picked up the nutty laugher Mister Lonely.

Korine co-scripted with Avi Korine, this is a yarn about a young American lost in Paris, eking out a living as a Michael Jackson (Luna) lookalike. By co-incidence, he meets Marilyn Monroe (Morton). He follows her to a commune in Scotland, joining her husband Charlie Chaplin (Lavant) and her daughter Shirley Temple. Fellow residents include The Pope, The Queen of England (Pallenberg), Madonna and James Dean. The drama is also partly set In a Brazilian forest where a community of missionary nuns bring aid to the locals. By far the person who steals the show is Werner Herzog who plays a priest.

The film will show at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival in the Vanguard section and will see theaters in 08’.
