‘Macbeth’ to make U.S. appearance

Date:

There is a time lapse when if one hasn’t found distribution then they might want to go the DIY route. Truly Indie is a program for filmmakers seeking self-distribution at theaters nationwide and a small Australian film from the director of Romper Stomper is choosing just that route.

I imagine this is in the vein of what
Baz Luhrmann did with Romeo & J, Geoffrey Wright's updated film adaptation of William Shakespeare's Macbeth will be domestically distributed by Truly Indie and Union Station Media.

Set in the contemporary crime world of Melbourne, Australia, Sam Worthington stars in a contemporary retelling of Shakespeare's “Macbeth” set in the ganglands of Melbourne. Expect sex scenes and violence.

The unrated feature will debut June 15 in
Seattle, followed by openings throughout August in San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Austin.
