Mendes Reunited With ‘Bad Lieutenant’ Cage

Date:

Ghostrider will ride again!  Well, at least its main players will be reunited on the big screen.  And there won’t be any comic-book references or flaming skulls this time.  According to Variety, Eva Mendes will be joining her previous co-star Nicolas Cage in a very different kind of pic.  The duo will be starring in Werner Herzog‘s remake of the 1992 pic that featured Harvey Keitel in one of his most creepiest roles (released the same year as Reservoir Dogs, coincidentally), Bad Lieutenant.  The pic was originally directed by Abel Ferrara and tells the story of a corrupt cop who indulges in drugs and gambling and teenage girls.  While investigating the rape of a nun, this ‘Bad Lieutenant’ begins to reevaluate his lifestyle.

Nu Image/Millenion Films will be financing the pic, which beings filming in late summer and should release in 2009.  Cage’s company, Saturn Films, will also be producing .

Mendes will appear in another remake this September, Diane English’s take on George Cukor‘s 1939 pic The Women.  Joining Mendes in an all-star cast will be Meg Ryan, Candice Bergen, Jada Pinkett Smith, Annette Bening, Debra Messing and Bette Midler, among others.  Mendes will also be appearing in the Frank Miller-directed pic, The Spirit, alongside Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson, in theaters this December.
