No Country for Old Men Poster

It was by far my favorite outta Cannes this year and I’d be willing to bet that the newest Coen Bros. film will find itself among many critics’ top ten lists. Today Miramax Films released the final poster for No Country for Old Men – a film that ranks among the Coen bros. greats such as Fargo and Blood Simple. I’ve included the high res poster below and the one that preemed at Cannes.

The poster predecessor perhaps didn’t get into the darker thematic headspace of the film – this is noir territory as you’ll see this coming November. I love the addition of Javier Bardem’s eyes overlooking the scrambling for his life Josh Brolin figure. 

For those who don't know, this is based on the Cormac McCarthy novel and the story begins when Llewelyn Moss (BROLIN) finds a pickup truck surrounded by a sentry of dead men. A load of heroin and two million dollars in cash are still in the back. When Moss takes the money, he sets off a chain reaction of catastrophic violence that not even the law – in the person of aging, disillusioned Sheriff Bell (JONES) – can contain. As Moss tries to evade his pursuers – in particular a mysterious mastermind who flips coins for human lives (BARDEM) – the film simultaneously strips down the American crime drama and broadens its concerns to encompass themes as ancient as the Bible and as bloodily contemporary as this morning's headlines.
