Sitges Repped by Los Ojos de Julia, Agnosia and Film Fest Faves

A good portion of titles were unveiled for Sitges Fantastic Film Festival which will take place between the 7th of October until the 17th. The inaugural film of this year´s official ceremony and out of competition will be “Los Ojos de Julia”, the Guillermo del Toro produced film in collaboration with director Guillém Morales and actress Belén Rueda (“The Orphanage”). “Agnosia” the second film from Eugenio Mira after his debut with “The Birthday” and “14 Days with Víctor” by Román Parrado will be Spain´s representation at the competitive official section.

The rest of the titles includes some festival circuit favorites “Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives” from Apichatpong Weerasethakul, winner of the last Cannes Film Festival (a Thai and co-production between several countries including Spain; the controversial “A Serbian Film” by Srdjan Spasojevic and already cult film “Rubber” from French director Quentin Dupieux. Zhang Yimou’s latest film “A Woman, a Gun and a Noodle Shop”, a loosely based remake of Coen bros. “Blood Simple”; “Outrage” the return of Takeshi Kitano to the yakuza film noir genre; Gregg Araki’s “Kaboom” a mix between horror and comedy; new Swedish sensation “Snabba Cash” directed by Daniel Espinosa and based on the bestseller thriller by Jen Lapidus; “Dream Home” by Pang Ho-cheung and finally “La Casa Muda” by Gustavo Hernández and “Somos Lo Que Hay” by Jorge Micher Grau, two entries that will try to confirm that latino-american cinema is vibrant in the fantastic and horror genres.

The Noves Visions section will count this year with “Catfish” winner of the last edition of Sundance and directed by Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost; “Trash Humpers”, the latest effort from controversial Harmony Korine; much talked about “Red,White and Blue” from Simon Rumley and finally “Strayed” a horror effort from Kazakhstan and director Akan Satayev. The non fiction category of this section will bring us “The People Vs George Lucas” by Alexande O. Philippe, documentary about the Star Wars fan phenomenon and Italian “La Bocca Del Lupo” by Pietro Marcello, a half fiction-half documentary love story influenced by the work of Terence Davies.

This year will still count with the new sections that were incorporated for the first time ever last year like for example the Seven Chances section, and we will be informing about the line ups as long as we keep receiving news on upcoming weeks.
