Among the pair of films nominated for Best Foreign Language film and without a domestic distribution deal (the other being Poland’s “Katyn” ), Sony Pictures Classics has just picked up the rights to Nikita Mikhalkov’s 12. The filmmaker of Burnt by the Sun took Sidney Lumet’s 1957 drama
“Twelve Angry Men” and remade the film by relocating it to war-torn Chechnya. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
