Sweden’s Foreign Oscar nom: You, the Living

If you are a fan of Roy Andersson (I was big on his 00' Songs From the Second Floor) then you'll be happy to know that his most recent film – the Cannes Un Certain Regard entry You, the Living will be representing the Swedes this year for the foreign language Oscar.

I hope that you readers get a chance to see the film – it stands apart from most comedies I know – I would even group it apart from its Scandi-neighbors comedic sensibilities. Those with a twisted sense of humor will love Anderson's deadpan style – the first 30 minutes is killer:  especially a sequence where a man stand trials for committing the most absurd crime in a courtroom full of delusional spectators.

You, the Living is a film about humankind, its greatness and its baseness, joy and sorrow, its self-confidence and anxiety, its desire to love and be loved.
