TIFF 08: Religulous

Date:

One year after watching a sizeable 10 minutes of the documentary, Religulous had become a high, must see priority and so, I expected Monday’s mid-afternoon screening of the Larry Charles docu-comedy to win over the crowds. It did so, but it didn’t do anything for me. The end product basically sees Charles creatively editing each interview mismatching questions, answers, and handing a grab-bag full of puzzled looks from people not used to having a camera shoved down their throats. Besides not being equipped to be presenting any kind of viewpoint these people are like a debate team without any wits or intellect to defend themselves’ against someone who is a one person debate team with flare. Bill Maher could have spent more time finding more suitable opponents in the discussion instead of finding the easiest way to the punch line or butt-end of the joke.
