Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2008: #29 Adventureland

Date:

#29. Adventureland

Director/Writer:
Greg Mottola
Producers: Anne Carey (The Savages) and indie film heavyweights Ted Hope and Sidney Kimmel
Distributor: Miramax Films

The Gist: The 1987-set story follows an uptight recent college grad (Jesse Eisenberg) who is forced to take a degrading minimum-wage job at the local amusement park when he realizes he can’t afford his dream European tour. The experience helps him to loosen up a bit as he finds first love, forms new friendships and emerges with a newfound sense of maturity just in time to enter the real world in the fall.

Fact: Adventureland is a small amusement park where Mottola worked when he was a teen.

See It: Super Bad was a breath of fresh air for the coming-of-age teen genre and something tells me he follows suit here.

Release Date/Status?: Currently in post-production, Miramax is looking at an August release and will try to strategically place it for the same kind of successful opening weekend as Mottola’s Super Bad (also an August release).
