The Gist: Based on Ned Vizzini’s young-adult novel, this is about a 16-year-old Craig (to be played by Keir Gilchrist), stressed out from the demands of being a teenager, checks himself into a mental health clinic. There he learns that the youth ward is closed – and finds himself stuck in the adult ward. One of the patients, Bobby (Zach Galifianakis), soon becomes both Craig’s mentor and protégé. Why is it on the list?: It’ll be interesting to see how indie pairing Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden adapt someone else’s material, as Half Nelson and Sugar demonstrated a style that seems so organic, ad lib and script-less. Fleck and Boden will ensure quality control with Dp Andrij Parekh.
Release Date/Status?: Currently filming, Focus is looking at a November release.
