Date:

IONCINEMA.com Top 100 Films

#65. Café de flore

Director/Writer: Jean-Marc Vallée
Producers: Pierre Even and Marie-Claude Poulin
Distributor: Rights Available.

The Gist: This is inspired by the legendary Parisian hang-out. The film follows two story lines — one in the 1960s, one in the present — linked by a famous song. This sees a male Montreal DJ (Parent) and woman. And between a mother and her son with Down’s syndrome.. Two people from two different eras who live two extraordinary moments of passion that shake their lives. A mystical and supernatural odyssey on love.….(more)

Cast: Vanessa Paradis, Kevin Parent, Hélène Florent, Evelyne Brochu, Émile Vallée, Chanel Fontaine

List Worthy Reasons…Ask any French Canadian cinephile what are in their all-time top 5 films from Quebec and among the more popular choices you’ll find C.R.A.Z.Y. After testing out the international film scene with The Young Victoria, Jean-Marc Vallée returns to French-language filmmaking and his specialty: films with a strong musical element and strong human connection. I’m looking for this film to further confirm the filmmaker’s status as a viable export.

Release Date/Status?: Certainly aiming for Cannes, this should receive a big festival release and could be locked up for U.S distribution following in the Villeneuves and Dolans.
