We’ve all been told that men are from Mars and women are from Venus.  According to THR, Warner Bros. will be comedically reinforcing this age-old gender binary with a retort against Elizabeth Gilbert’s 2006 memoir Eat, Pray, Love.  This “male comedy,” bluntly titled Drink, Play, F@#K, will follow one man who seeks solace in alchohol, gambling and sex after his wife leaves him.

GIlbert’s novel, which remained on the New York Times’ bestseller list for over a year, recounts the author’s journey to self-discovery through fine dining in Italy, spiritual exploration in India and love in Indonesia.  Posing a possible cinematic battle of the sexes, Paramount Pictures purchased the rights to the memoir, with Julia Roberts attached to star and Brad Pitt‘s production company, Plan B, producing.

Drink, Play, F@#K, on the other hand, is a fictional story in which a man named Bob Sullivan finds “solace” at the bottom of beer mugs in Ireland, through an emptied wallet in Las Vegas and in bed with prostitutes in Thailand.  Written by Andrew Gottlieb, the book will be published by Grove Press some time next year before the theatrical version is released.   While Opray Winfrey devoted two full episodes to Gilbert’s memoir, don’t expect to see her book club following this one.
