We're about 36 hours away from Cannes Film Festival's big unveiling of the 2011 line-up and while the Main Comp should bare very little surprises (see the math below), the one title whose status is still a mystery and could break into the 20 or so titles is Carlos Reygadas' Post Tenebras Lux.
The Berlin Film Festival begins today and in typical IONCINEMA.com fashion, I've decided to unveil my predictions for the 2011 edition of the Cannes Film Festival. I've taken the liberty at breaking down the predictions by what should logically fit into what sections: Main Comp, UCR and the Director's Fortnight sidebar.
I've come up with a magical number of 30 films that I'll be covering for the fest (you might have noticed the TIFF Picks countdown over the past couple of weeks), when in fact that, the number of films I hope to catch a whopping 44!
Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig will have the world preem for Daybreakers, Michael J. Bassett does the same with Solomon Kane and Jaume Balaguero's [Rec] 2 will receive its North American preem here. On my must see radar in terms of coverage, I might add the Faster Pussycat homage - a Rick Jacobson's campy side-dish called Bitch Slap.
Dainipponjin (Big Man Japan) takes on the quintessentially Japanese Kaiju genre (giant monster movies preferably done with men in rubber suites) and strips away all the artifice with a This is Spinal Tap-esque mockumentary... a brilliantly executed satire with a truly unique perspective on the monster movie.
