The King’s Speech Leads Golden Globe Noms Plus Jeers and Cheers

The Golden Globes award noms (a.k.a the "friendly" awards) have been unveiled and The King’s Speech leads with seven nominations while The Fighter and The Social Network following close behind with six noms each. The Comedy or Musical categories remind us why the show is more of a popularity contest than anything else, but knowing that we can still have contempt for the whole thing, we'll end up half-watching anyways when it airs next month.

We'll find out exactly at the beginning of next month, what Telluride manages to steal from the world premiere mentions below, but regardless of world preem status, TIFF this year is BIG. In the award season contention list, TIFF have stole the thunder from NYFF by adding Clint Eastwood's Hereafter and the always welcomed helmer Danny Boyle is bringing 127 Hours - this one is Telluride bound you can smell it.

Oscilloscope ‘Howl’ for Off Beat Docu-Fiction Sundance Selection

Never a good sign when a film that technically opened the Sundance Film Festival and subsequently played at Berlin is picked up a full four months after the fact. I haven't seen Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman's film but from what I heard, the film poses as a challenge to the patrons who'll end up seeing the film in theaters and might be a puzzle for the marketing department at Oscilloscope Laboratories who picked up the picture. The distributor plans a September 24th launch accompanied by a VOD release.
