2012 Sundance Film Festival: 80 Predictions Recap

Sometime late this month (or at the beginning of the month of December) the Sundance Film Festival will start unveiling the line-up for their 2012 edition. In an effort to give our readers a heads up on what we'll most likely be seeing at the fest, I've put together yet another predictions list. Caution: I cast a wide circle with a total of 80 predix so I'm bound to get some wrong, but as I've proven in prior years, I'm spot on with at least half the titles you'll find here.

Watch What They Write: Anthony Bruno (The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer)

Anthony Bruno, an American prolific crime novelist (the Bad books, the Loretta Kovacks ones with espresso and fudge names, amongst others), recreates Richard Kuklinsi's life, with the investigation in parallel. The book The Iceman has been optioned by director-producer Ariel Vromen, with the producing and financing team Millenium/Nu Image and Bleiberg Entertainment. Here's my interview with Bruno - we discuss his encounter with Kuklinski, the book, and the film version that should start lensing in the fall this year.

Sundance Institute: Lucky 14 Join 2011 June Directors and Screenwriters Labs

Of the eight projects in the Directors Lab, seven were previously worked on in previous screenwriters labs -- they include: Sara Colangelo (pictured above) who was in Filmmaker Magazine's 25 New Faces 2010 edition, we have Romanian filmmaker Bodgan Mustata (who we previously featured) and Carlo Mirabella-Davis' genre film (not your typical Lab project) will also be included it now goes by the title of The Storm King instead of previous title On Evil.

IONCINEMA.com’s Live Oscar Blog

Here's our LIVE Oscar Blog for what was a fairly predictable and uneventful night that will go down in the books as the failed "Franco and Hathaway" experiment. ABC might want to start planning the format for the 84th sometime next week.

Black Swan Swooned at Indie Spirit Awards

I went 10/13 with my predictions of the Indie Spirits today -- my misfires came in the Best Picture and Best Actress categories thinking that Winter's Bone had the edge over Black Swan. Not that Winter's Bone didn't have a good night (it won in the Best Supporting categories - I thought that Bill Murray had the edge over John Hawkes is where I flubbed as well) but it was indeed a Black Swan event -- with additional wins for Directing (Darren Aronofsky) and Cinematography (Matthew Libatique). You can find the winners in bold below.
