Key Players in the Cannes Market: Wild Bunch

Three titles that should receive a lot of attention in this year's fest are: Jorge Michel Grau's contempo cannibal film to break out We Are What We Are (see pic), and Johannes Stjärne Nilsson's Sound of Noise – a high risk film because it mixes genres together like someone grabbing whole bunch of leftovers from the fridge.

Cannes 2010: Tree of Life Unlikely, Carlos Fighting for a Spot, Still More Titles to Come

Okay so Miral is out, Tree of Life is unlikely and Carlos is fighting to find a spot, and if we crunch the numbers (past decade stats provided by a Cannes film festival friend) it looks certain that there is still some filling up to do, not just the Main Comp, but potentially one or two more added titles might be added to the Un Certain Regard section and we should get at least four more titles joining the Out of Competition titles of Robin Hood, Stephen Frears, Oliver Stone and Woody Allen.

Updated List: Forecasting The Director’s Fortnight and Critic’s Week Picks

With the Un Certain Regard category pretty much complete, we can now focus our attention on next week's announcements for the sidebar sections of the Director's Fortnight and Critic's Week. I've listed a whopping 26 films and I'm confident that several will show up in the approximate 30 or so feature films with many first-time works that will make up both sections (put together).

No Cannes for Tarr, Assayas, Mundruczo, Schnabel, Loach and Malick?

Cannes announced 16 films in the Main Competition today and the Un Certain Regard is perhaps complete but could fit two more titles in, but as expected, Terrence Malick's film is still in limbo. Apart from that frustrating example, there are about three to five available slots in the Main Comp and some hefty titles that are missing in action. I've compiled a list below, but worth mentioning are blatant omissions such as Julian Schnabel's Miral, Kornel Mundruczo's Frankenstein Project, Ken Loach's Route Irish and perhaps even Bruce Robinson's The Rum Diary.

Cannes Wish List 2010: 20 New Films to Hope For

I've decided to come up with not a "revised" list of predictions per se, but instead, an updated list of 20 films that I both expect to announced in two weeks from now and that I'm especially looking forward in covering for this site.
