Matilda is a woman created from my imagination, Bogdan’s imagination, from other characters reactions towards her and, also, from Marius Panduru’s look, from the constant development of the story and from our solutions we found with each step in order to build our ideas. Matilda is a tired person, aged before her time, who doesn’t trust anybody and whom nobody trusts either.
It's another "Cannes heavy" selection this year for the 48th edition of the NYFF. With the majority of the titles coming from the Croisette (look out for some personal faves in Cristi Puiu's Aurora and Michelangelo Frammartino's Le Quattro Volte) and the Lido (Abdellatif Kechiche's Black Venus, Kelly Reichardt's Meek’s Cutoff, Hong Sang-soo's Oki’s Movie, Pablo Larrain's Post Mortem, Patrick Keiller's Robinson in Ruins, Alexei Fedorchenko's Silent Souls, plus Raul Ruiz's miniseries Mysteries of Lisbon), I figure it be fun to take a closer look at the non-Cannes/Venice offerings.
I've decided to come up with not a "revised" list of predictions per se, but instead, an updated list of 20 films that I both expect to announced in two weeks from now and that I'm especially looking forward in covering for this site.

Olivier Pere exited to become the head honcho at Locarno, so the Director's Fortnight, also known as La Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, will be Frederic Boyer's baby this year. The mandate will remain the same, but will the tastes differ? Pere's legacy includes some of my favorites over the past decade such as Corneliu Porumboiu's 12:08 East of Bucharest...
I spent all of last week divulging some of films that I expect to be in Cannes this year, and Screen Daily happened to do the same. There are a good number of films that are mentioned of both sites' lists, but I mention about twenty films that the trade makes no mention of, and of course they have got a long list as well of films that I either passed on as potential selections or I was totally oblivious as to their existence.
