Before we head on over to the top 5 out of my top 10 poster designs for the year that was, I’d like to give kudos to the art of the “teaser” poster. The marketing heads over at Lionsgate films continue to both impress, and have fun with this form of early marketing....
What are names like Jay Hernandez and Jason Scott Lee doing in a Kazakhstan movie? We’ll soon find out. Today we received what looks to be the final one sheet for the film that is Kazakhstan’s official entry, Best Foreign Language Film for the 79th Academy Awards®.
It was already a great year in 2006 with his showcase roles in Hard Candy and Little Children, but 2007 is shaping up to be his breakout year. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Patrick Wilson has joined the supernatural thriller project called Passengers.
The “auteurist theory” is put into practice in our final TEN – and not surprisingly, 4 of the top 10 projects I’d wait in a line to see on opening day have no distributor in place for the U.S market. The ten filmmakers (make that 11 with the Coens) represent a global sampling of what one might consider challenging cinema. Production was stalled a couple of times, but now with a U.S distributor on board its full steam ahead for Kenneth Branagh’s contemporary take on the 1972 film. Sony Pictures Classics has boarded the production which starts later this month.
