What do you do if you find out your wife is having an affair? Why ask the bloke over for dinner of course. That’s the premise for the remake of the 1972 Academy Award® nominated Sleuth set for release in 2007. Michael Caine is on board for this reprise, but this time he plays thriller-writer Adam Wyke, the scorned husband and socialite who concocts a scheme to get revenge on his wife’s hairdresser (Jude Law), with whom she’s having the affair. In the original film Caine played the lover. The ensuing chaos involves deceptions and counter-deceptions where each man tries to outwit the other.

Social change is not an easy or inexpensive venture, but that has never stopped filmmakers from trying their hand at cultural topics and thought provoking insights. Tom McCarthy has been tapped by Groundswell Productions and Participant Productions to pen and helm their newest venture to be titled The Visitor. Participant and Groundswell are partnering to co-finance the comedic dramat, which is being produced by Mary Jane Skalski's Next Wednesday Prods.

Take a Hollywood icon, a directorial whiz kid and the backing of a technology giant and what do you have? The express lane to the first pickup of the 2006 Toronto Film Festival. Morgan Freeman, the Academy Award® winning actor and Hollywood legend, teams up with Brad Silberling (”Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events”) in an eclectic homespun friendship flick ”10 Items or Less”. The film was partly financed by computer technology giant Intel, and has reportedly been picked up by ThinkFilm for distribution in late 2006 or early 2007.
