The Conversation: 2015 Oscar Predix: A Break in the System…Leviathan is Dark Horse Winner for Best Foreign Pic

Date:

The Nominations: Foreign Language Film
“Ida” Poland
“Leviathan” Russia
“Tangerines” Estonia
“Timbuktu” Mauritania
“Wild Tales” Argentina

Shoulda Been a Contender: Force Majeure

Always a contentious category considering the silly selection process, there are too many deserving films left out. But the Golden Globe nominated Force Majeure was definitely a title that deserved to be amongst the five nominated films.

Should Win: Leviathan

Winner of the Golden Globe and the Best Screenplay Award at Cannes, Andrey Zvyagintsev’s magnetic latest should certainly take home the Oscar.

Could Win: Ida

Pawel Pawlikowski’s beautiful and emotionally compelling drama could very well take home the gold (though, who knows….the Academy may very well award the more zany Wild Tales).

Will Win: Leviathan

The tide swinging between Ida and Wild Tales, it is Leviathan‘s topicality that may very well give Academy voters the sense that they realize this to be true.
