We’ve been long fans of this Panamanian-American indie filmmaker from her half dozen short films (especially Gregory Go Boom) that focused on failure, alienation, discomfort with a collection of deeply flawed characters. She made her feature debut with Lemon in 2017 before cementing her status among the best with Zola (2020), famously adapted from a viral Twitter story. Having become a prolific television with Dear White People, Mrs. America, Poker Face and The Listeners among her best gigs, we’re curious to see if the saturated colors, heightened performances, deadpan and uncomfortable tonal shifts will be applicable here with this third outing. Here is everything we know so far (American Indie Edition) for … Janicza Bravo‘s PrƎppy.
Bravo was attached to the Martha Stewart biopic project with Cate Blanchett toplining, but this project was quickly put together to leapfrog that project. Beginning in late September, the film is currently filming in New York City.

Based on an original screenplay by David Levine and Rose Lichter-Marck, PRƎPPY explores the summer of 1986 leading to the murder of recent high school graduate Jennifer Levin at the hands of Robert Chambers, a former Manhattan private-school student, in New York’s Central Park. The shocking crime — in which Chambers was dubbed the “Preppy Killer”.

Kit Connor and Diana Silvers were cast in the roles of Robert Chambers and Jennifer Levin. We’re anticipating more supporting cast announcements via the trades in the weeks to come.

Aggregate Films’ Jason Bateman, Michael Costigan, and John Buderwitz are producing the film.

This will be pivoting towards the fall film festival season in 2027 with a potential first look to distributors ahead of a fest premiere.
