2013 Cannes Film Festival Predictions: Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Like Father Like Son

#29. Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Like Father Like Son

Gist: A successful businessman driven by money, learns that his biological son was switched with another child after birth. He must make a life-changing decision and choose his true son or the boy he raised as his own. Rarely does Kore-eda disappoint, his films touch acutely on what appears to be simple family matters but exposes much more angst and turmoil in his characters.

Prediction: Festival’s Main Comp always needs a straight-up, likeable drama that plays well with a larger audience and this appears to be the type. Having attended the fest previously with the unforgettable Air Doll (2009), Nobody Knows (2004) and Distance (2001), the film which is being handled by the Wild Bunch folks is currently in post production.
