Top 100 Most Anticipated American Indie Films of 2018: #45. Crystal Moselle’s Skate Kitchen

Date:

Skate Kitchen

Crystal Moselle made the shift to the world of fiction with a project that is once again curious about subculture. Following Sundance’s U.S. Documentary Grand Jury Prize winner The Wolfpack (read review), Moselle found her subjects: a tribe with decks, wheels and asphalt., Shot over the summer, Skate Kitchen employs non-actors (from the short she made that preemed at Venice) alongside professionals in Jaden Smith and Elizabeth Rodriguez. A Brit-American production, we look forward to this shot in New York City portrait.

Written by Moselle and Aslihan Unaldi, this is inspired by events in the girls’ lives, the film tells the story of Camille (Rachelle Vinberg), a lonely suburban teenager whose life changes dramatically when she befriends a group of girl skateboarders. As she journeys into the raw NYC subculture, she begins to make choices that lead to a deeper understanding of herself. Jaden Smith stars alongside the members of Skate Kitchen.

Release Date/Prediction: This was selected for the NEXT section at the Sundance Film Festival.
