In less than 24 hours, they've nabbed Brit Steve McQueen for "Fela", and they've now got their sights on Dane Lone Scherfig who has been on cloud nine this year with An Education. In what would be her transition project to a filmmaking career in the States, THR reports that she is being circled to direct One Day, a romantic comedy to be produced by Color Force's Nina Jacobson (upcoming Diary of a Wimpy Kid) and Random House Films.
Meetings at the Focus Features Int. office this year must be short and sweet -- as they don't have plenty of volume in the pipeline -- but do manage to have some titles worth considering and this includes Mike Mills' brilliant Beginners and the pre-fall release of Lone Scherfig's One Day, but also currently in production films from the Wachowskis and one from Paul Weitz that should fetch big dollars.
Canada's most avant-garde film festival have released their entire slate for their 38th edition. Apart from Lee Daniel's pegged for Oscar - Precious, Lone Scherfig's An Education, Lars von Trier's Antichrist and Pedro Almodóvar's Broken Embraces (Los abrasos rotos), this year's edition is filled to the gills with obscure titles and names that even a hardcore connoisseur of world cinema such as myself is unfamiliar with.
Germany's Oliver Hirschbiegel and Denmark’s own Lone Scherfig and Nicolas Winding Refn are among those representing their latest works in the World Dramatic Competition. The selection committee had the crazy task of bringing down the total number 1,012 submissions down to 16.
