Film in Pictures: Contempo Film Noir in Monte Hellman’s Road to Nowhere

Couple of days ago we showed you this still of Shannyn Sossamon, and now we've got the full synopsis and a batch of new images for Monte Hellman's Road to Nowhere (Venice Film Festival Main Competition). Shot in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, the West End of London, Lago di Garda in Northern Italy, the ancient parts of Rome and Hellman's own living room, reading from the film's press kit, this promises to be a twisty, turny item with Sossamon's character borrowing certain doppelganger-like features.

Closer Look: Sex Ed in Athina Rachel Tsangari’s Attenberg

In adding this new batch of new images to the synopsis and other images we exclusively preemed, Athina Rachel Tsangari's Attenberg is shaping up to be the most curious looking title from this year's Venice comp - here's hoping it makes it among the Toronto titles and thus make my future schedule, a little bit edgier.

Randomness: Take This Waltz, The Loneliest Planet, Higher Ground, Midnight in Paris, Melancholia

Here's a collection of paparazzi, normal folk shot and press conference photo odds & ends on projects that we're already keeping close tabs on. In descending order we have Sarah Polley giving direction to Sarah Silverman who plays Geraldine -- a probable BFF to Michelle Williams romantically involved character in Talk this Waltz.

Film in Pictures: Huppert Elicits Erotic Urges in Labrune’s ‘Special Treatment’

Toasted by the Pialats, Godards, Chabrols, Hanekes and Claire Denis, almost in her fourth decade in front of the camera, in my opinion, Isabelle Huppert is perhaps the most versatile actress in film today. By the looks of the first set of stills below, I'd say there is no typecasting her. Special Treatment is being released in France at the end of the month of September, and just prior, is receiving a world premiere showing at TIFF.

Laetitia Casta Isolated on Kamen Kalev’s ‘The Island’

Proving she's just not a pretty face, Laetitia Casta took a really interesting turn in her acting career when she appeared in Tsai Ming-liang's Face, and made for a surprisingly good xerox of Bardot in Gainsbourg (Vie héroïque). Now the actress is setting foot in Bulgaria for a filmmaker I'm sure, not even the most ardent cinephile is aware of.
