2010 Venice Film Festival Predictions
I don't think the title of head programmer for any festival is an easy job, but I'd argue that Marco Müller has it "easy" this year. With so many of the world's best auteurs having not been ready to deliver at the Cannes deadline, the 67th edition of the Venice Film Festival (which will run 1st to 11th September 2010) is going to be loaded in premium titles. With many items having already been mentioned and speculated on before, here is an updated predictions list with a good helping of new names.
American New Wave 25: Lance Emands
Getting his feet wet with a gig on Michael Mayer's A Home at the End of the World, working for Todd Solondz (Palindromes) and adding post-prod assistant experience from Jarmusch's Broken Flowers, Katherine Dieckmann's Diggers and television's The Wire, surely helped trace the route of where this graduate of NYU’s Tisch (2004) is headed, but it's Vacationland, the award-winning thesis short film that earned Lance Edmands his stars.
American New Wave 25: Sean Durkin
Not sure that you could have written a better scenario for writer/director Sean Durkin in 2010. He began the year at Sundance, workshopping Martha Marcy May Marlene, his feature film debut at the Institutes' Screenwriter's Lab and premiered his short film, Mary Last Seen during the fest portion.
