A Wealth of Hungarian Helmers Headed to Cannes?
Normally the flag colors of red, white and green would announce a strong cluster of Italian films, but I think this year's edition of the Cannes Film Festival might include my previously announced predictions of seeing Benedek Fliegauf, Kornel Mundruczo and Bela Tarr, but Cineuropa is adding one more name to their list in helmer Agnes Kocsis.
Film in Pictures: Andrucha Waddington’s Lope
Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's Biutiful will receive a Main Comp spot, and keeping with the Amores Perros connection, we might get a first glimpse of Gael Garcia Bernal in Iciar Bollain's Even the Rain, but the one title that hasn't been tossed around as a likely candidate for the croisette is Andrucha Waddington's Lope.
Tribeca 2010: Dahan’s My Own Love Song Added, Freakonomics Finally Receiving World Premiere
With such strong ties to both the Sundance and Tribeca Film Festivals, it comes as no surprise that Alex Gibney and co. will use Tribeca as the launching pad for the world premiere to a docu film whose release is long overdo. Freakonomics will serve as the closing Gala premiere to the festival, and I believe it could find a buyer from such a showcase.
Magnolia Goes the Extra Mile for ‘The Extra Man’
Magnolia Pictures have done some late Sundance shopping, grabbing the rights to Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini's The Extra Man, a comedy that I managed to miss in Park City due to a conflict in my schedule. I'll have to wait until late July or show up at the Sarasota and Boston Film Festivals if I want an advance screening.
