Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2010: Jacob Aaron Estes’ The Details

I was smitten by Estes' psychological accuracy in Mean Creek, a damn fine rendering of pre-teenage youth and I'm looking forward to his treatment of damaged souls with this dark comedy. From coming of age to grown-ups that have more growing up to do, this might be a pleasurable domestic tale a la Todd Field's Little Children.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2010: Peter Mullan’s Neds

2002's The Magdalene Sisters demonstrated Mullan's knack for holding a scene, capturing human drama without flinching. It's a shame we've had to wait this long for his third feature film but from what I understand, this taps into a portion of Mullan's own childhood -- expect it to be void of cute.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2010: Mark Romanek’s Never Let Me Go

Due to a couple of projects that were stuck on the tarmac, Romanek's sophomore feature comes a full eight years since the clinical One Hour Photo. That film proved what we already knew, Romanek is a wizkid with the camera, and at creating a sense of unease. This narrative with creepy science fiction-like ideas feels like the ideal follow-up.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2010: John Madden’s The Debt

Madden doesn't have the best of scorecards (Killshot anyone?), but isn't revenge more sweet after a three decade defrost period and when you have thesps Ciarán Hinds, Helen Mirren and Tom Wilkinson on board?

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2010: Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island

I doubt that we'll be chalking this one up as a seminal picture in Marty's filmography, but before we start bashing the film or over-examining why it got pushed back into early 2010 start calling (DiCaprio worked on Inception) - I say embrace this for what it is: a filmmaker having fun with a genre that he hasn't really explored before and a pure guilty pleasure for the viewer.
